We believe an educated consumer will make the best decisions, and
there are six things we want you to consider which are explained
further in this message.
After
studying interior design, I joined J.C. Penney's Custom Decorating
Department in 1976. I found my niche! I thoroughly enjoyed
independently working with clients on the road selling and designing
custom window treatments. That enthusiasm and desire lifted
my sales to the pinnacle position of becoming the top decorator
in the United States Eastern Region (representing 163 decorators
from 9 states). In 1986, I left Penney's to offer my customers a
more competitively priced product, more extensive selection, more
expedient completion time, and the finest team of people to support
me. Most interior designers specialize in different areas, and I
realized I needed to become an expert if I was to specialize.
I
am certified and a member of the following:

What
are your priorities?
Using
the list below please number 1 through 9, with 1 being your highest
priority.
Ask
yourself 12 questions, before getting started.
Do
I want this window treatment to be functional, decorative, or
both?
How much light do I want and does
the window need to be totally cleared?
Is UVA protection and fading of
carpet and furnishings a consideration?
How much privacy do I want?
How does heat and cold affect the
home? Is insulation a priority?
How important is ease of care and
maintenance?
Do I want the room to be simple
or dramatic, subtle or bold, embellished or tailored?
Do I want a new design theme, or
keep what I have?
What are my color preferences?
Do I prefer solids or prints?
How long will I be in this home?
What is my budget?
Is there a deadline that is required
to complete installation?
How
to be prepared for consultation:
Consider your priorities
for what your main focus will be. Review the above 12 questions.
Be prepared to express
your desires. The treatments should reflect YOU and not the designer.
Discuss your budget,
if you have one, early in the discussion.
If it is a home under
construction, bring swatches of those items that must be matched
— carpet, wallpaper, upholstery, bedspreads, paint chips,
photos and sizes of furniture.
Plan ahead —
Blinds take 3 to 5 weeks, Draperies take 8 to 10 weeks.
In
the shade and blind market each manufacturer offers several different
grades. Be sure that you are getting a quote on the same exact product
and quality. Ready made components are inferior to the custom line.
Custom treatments are designed to give you trouble free smooth operation,
and last many more years. If you have a problem, ready made need
to be thrown away, where as the custom product can be repaired by
your dealer. There are many differences in skill and experience
from drapery workrooms as well. Fullness, material quality,
tool quality, and finishing details all affect the final result.
I work with six workrooms. All have different strengths, and I assign
work based on the strongest match to their skill and experience
for my client's design.
There
is no risk to you when I take full responsibility for measuring,
planning, designing, selection, installation, and service in the
future. If you take on these responsibilities, you may not know
all your choices, how to properly measure and install, and just
as important, choosing the right color and application based on
scale, balance, proportion and harmony to other elements in the
room. Will you be happy and confident with the results? We
guarantee your satisfaction!
